Festitalia is proud to present a special evening celebrating Italian-Canadian heritage and the power of believing that with passion, determination and courage, dreams can become reality.

This year’s Opening Reception will feature Hamilton’s own Laura Fortino, one of Canada’s most accomplished hockey players and a trailblazer in women’s sport.

Laura’s appearance at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games was remarkable not simply because she competed in another Olympic Games, but because it represented a deeply personal full-circle journey.

After capturing Olympic Gold with Canada in 2014 and Silver in 2018, Laura returned to the Olympic stage in 2026 wearing the jersey of Italy—the homeland of her family’s heritage. She became one of the few athletes in Winter Olympic history to compete for two different nations, embracing the opportunity to help grow women’s hockey in Italy while inspiring future generations of athletes.

For a Hamilton-born Olympian who had already reached the pinnacle of international hockey, representing Italy at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics added a powerful new chapter to an extraordinary career—one defined not only by championships and medals, but by legacy, family heritage, leadership, and a commitment to shaping the future of women’s hockey.

Reflecting on Italy’s historic qualification for the Olympic Games, Laura shared:
